Today I was asked to answer some questions about my own IEP experiences. Here’s what I said:
Q: How old were you when you started attending your own IEP meetings?
A: I think I was starting at high school, when I attended the meetings. Also both my mom and my dad went to the meetings, so that means that one of them had to get to school anyway.
Q: Did you come to the whole IEP meeting or part of the IEP meeting?
A: I went to the whole meeting and I even spoke for my side.
Q: Did anyone talk to you about what you should talk about and do during the IEP meeting?
A: Yes!
Q: Who talked to you?
A: Three people talked to me who are one Ms. Goldthwaite (my first facilitator), two my dad (since he is a lawyer) and three my mom (since she is a teacher).
Q: What did you learn about what you should do at IEP meetings
A: I should tell them my side of the story
Q: What did you learn about how you should get ready for IEP meeting?
A: I should get ready by brainstorming the lades from the meeting and knowing in advance the meeting.
Q: Did anybody give you something to read about IEP meetings?
A: No!
